Abstracto

In patients seven and older diagnosed with uncomplicated acute appendicitis, are antibiotics alone effective in decreasing overall complications, decreasing hospital stay and recovery time, decreasing cost, and increasing patient satisfaction compared to traditional appendectomy?

Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical emergencies with a lifetime incidence of 7 to 14% [1]. Although appendectomy has remained the mainstay treatment, there has been renewed interest in the conservative treatment for uncomplicated acute appendicitis.  

Purpose: The purpose of this analysis is to compare the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy with traditional appendectomy in the treatment of uncomplicated acute appendicitis in patients seven and older.
